Ashley Poelhuis

Certified Whole Health Nutrition Coach

After a severe sports injury in high school left me in constant pain, I searched for relief and a way to get my body to do what I wanted it to do. Doctors told me the injury was unfixable. I was frustrated, and in pain.

Ultimately I required surgery to fix my injury, but it was my commitment to nutrition, movement, and mobility that helped heal my body and mind, and empowered me to become stronger and more grounded than before I was injured.

I knew that I did not want anyone to feel the same feelings of helplessness and vulnerability that I felt and became a personal trainer in 2014 and  then a Precision Nutrition certified Master Health Coach in in order to support others who were seeking to improve their health.

After the birth of my son, I recognized the feelings of vulnerability that came in the first few months postpartum. My body had done something incredible, but I had to learn to recognize myself again. I honored the healing process and used my expertise and knowledge of nutrition and wellness to accelerate my recovery and become comfortable in my new body.

Now I am dedicated to helping other women do the same. The lack of postpartum support in the Western world is astounding and it is my mission to bring this lack to the forefront and help women navigate postpartum so they can come into motherhood confident,  healthy, and whole.

My Philosophy

The body is a whole entity. It is body, it is mind, it is spirit. We have to acknowledge and address all areas of ones health in order to feel fully whole. This is never more true than after a birth experience. Regardless of if it is your first birth or your fifth- each pregnancy and postpartum is unique and requires unique things from the mother.

Your body will have unique needs nutritionally, structurally, and hormonally. Your mind will have unique needs to process your experience and navigate the dramatic hormonal changes. Your spirit will be touched by your experience in ways that can be empowering but perhaps also devistating.

My philosophy focuses on the five basic needs of every postpartum woman (Nourishing food, Rest, Companionship, Loving Touch, and exposure to Nature) to help women navigate the first few months after birth.

I strive to apply evidence-based practices both nutritionally and psychologically but with the lack of current research that specifically pertains to needs of postpartum women, I also rely on cultural rituals and practices from all over the world to inform the best route to wellness for each woman I work with.

My goal is to ensure each of my clients is firstly well-nourished in body and then in mind. I work with each client to assess and apply the strategies that fit their unique dietary preferences and lifestyle needs.
